theme from The Unit, first season obviously

I feel like the real question here is whether you want something current or a little older? Maybe something DMB?

Ray of Light is my favorite song ever! So I'm partial!

I think the above are way more Gen X than Y - think more Lady Gagaesue...

I also do like Madonna's "Don't Tell Me" and think that Third Eye Blind "Semi Charmed Kind of Life" was pretty huge for the generation. I don't think you can use fatboy slim.

I swear that almost any Gen Y woman will dance excitedly to Hey-ya or Toxic, no matter how many times they've heard them. If you did a mash-up of the two, you might be able to rule the (GEn y, female) world. Smiling

Agrred with Bella and Eppie too — more modern might be better to get your point across.

The Saved by the Bell theme. j/k I like Molly's DMB suggestion or Britney. Since Madonna's not a Gen Y herself, it sort of throws me off.

ditto to what eppie said. - also kerr (who is Gen Y) said she doesn't even know those songs.

Gwen-"Ain't No Holla Back Girl"

Britney - Gimme More
u2 - Desire, With or Without You, All I want is you
Madonna - Ray of Light, Holiday!!!, Material Girl
Destiny's Child - Independent Woman
JT - Sexyback
Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent, Since you been gone

I'd have to agree with Bella on the Hey-Ya front, but ultimately go with my first (which was your second) choice of Destiny's Child Independent Woman. Gotta give the love to DC. They are SO Gen Y.

I agree- I'm a Gen Xer and Madonna, Britney (pre-hair disaster) that is all Gen X. Holla Back could be fun.

I completely agree with Pop:
Destiny's Child - Independent Woman
Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent
a Pink song could be good too. I think Madonna is of another generation although Gen Xers still listen to her and she is still relevant.

Actually, now that I think about it, Molly may be right on with her original choice: Third Eye Blind —Semi-Charmed Life

Bella hit it with Hey Ya - coming in a close second for me would be Gwen - Holla Back Girl and Miss Pink So Whay

According to the scholarly journal known as Wikipedia, "as there are no precise dates for when Generation Y starts and ends, most commentators use birth dates ranging somewhere from 1976 to late 1980s."

So does that mean that the "anthem" would have to have come out when the Gen Y-ers were in their teens or 20's? So basically the 90's?

(Sorry, I always overthink music questions)

At any rate, the anthem would have to be No Doubt's "Just a Girl."

Whiplash for the win. I love her researching spirit too.

Absolutely - Whiplash wins! Stay VERY FAR away from Madonna, U2 or Britney. Very gen x.
